Green tea is considered a modern panacea that enhances our body’s health and is useful in weight control management but is it true what people say about it? Opposite to other herbal remedies and natural dietary supplements, green tea has enjoyed a large amount of advertising space and airtime that sometimes make us doubt of green tea caffeine and other related topics regarding its beneficial properties.

One real fact is that all the known types of tea contain caffeine but depending on the plant from which leaves are taken and the oxidation process, the amount of this substance can vary considerably and sometime it can be similar or above the amount of caffeine found in coffee. In green tea, caffeine is minimal if compared with other teas.
It is a myth that green tea is caffeine-free, but the amount of this substance can be so reduced that it will not produce the effects of a cup of coffee. In fact, a cup of green tea has at least one-third less caffeine than the same cup of coffee. Some companies claim to harvest green tea following certain procedure and limiting oxidation to reduce as much as possible this substance.
With green tea, caffeine should not be a problem because the plant from which it is produced (Camellia sinensis) has two powerful polyphenolic antioxidants: catechins and epigallocatechins (EGCG). These compounds have anti-carcinogenic properties and can prevent or stop the progression of numerous diseases, at the time that reduce the oxidation of the tea leaves limiting the production of caffeine.
It is not true that drinking a cup of green tea every day will resolve your overweight problems, although it will increase your body’s immune system overtime. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is recommended drink ten cups of green tea a day to reduce your weight and boost your metabolism. The green tea caffeine consumption will obviously increase, but always will be below the amount that ten cups of coffee would bring to your organism.
Nonetheless, most health care providers recommend between two and five cups of green tea a day, or its equivalent when it comes to green tea capsules or pills. Some people consider more beneficial those capsules over the infusion because they may contain concentrated doses of epigallocatechins, but basically pills are produced as a good alternative if you dislike the taste of green tea or you have not time to prepare it as infusion throughout the day.
What if you exceed the green tea dose per day? As of today, the green tea caffeine has not cause insomnia to anyone and there is no evidence that someone has experienced increased heart rate, fast pulse or any other symptom that sometimes occur after a person sensitive to caffeine drinks too much coffee.
For the past few decades, researchers have not found evidence that green tea could produce side effects, and there are not reports of people dead after drinking too much green tea caffeine.

Oolong and wu-yi teas have a higher concentration of polyphenols than other types of green tea, that is why health care providers recommend drinking them with moderation even though they also prevent cancer and cardiovascular disease. Often referred to as the secret behind the Hollywood Weight Lose Diet, green tea is certainly an excellent fat burner, but its benefits are not limited to helping people get rid of extra pounds. About 5,000 years ago, green tea was already used in traditional Chinese medicine and it was not until a few decades ago that modern researchers discovered how a green tea diet can improve our mind and body wellness.
Green tea is produced from a plant called Camellia Sinensis and is famous worldwide as an energy drink that contains less caffeine than any other type of tea, what makes it safe for people who need to reduce their caffeine intake for any medical or personal reason. A green tea diet protects your teeth and promotes healthy skin, due to its natural antioxidant EGCG (epigallocatechins).
Actually, there are different dietary supplements and skin care products that include green tea in their formulation, the factor that makes it easier to start a green tea diet and start living healthier because green tea also prevents rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and inhibits the development of cancer according to an article published in 1994 by he Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

British researchers have found evidence that green tea is useful to delay Alzheimer’s disease thanks to its power to inhibit butyrylcholinesterase, acetylcholinesterase, and beta-secretase, chemicals that are responsible for the plaques and protein deposits in the gray matter that interferes with the cerebral function.
A green tea diet contributes to fighting flu and infection, stimulating the gamma-delta T-cells and protecting your organisms against disease associated with impaired immune function. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, green tea can boost our metabolism without raising the heart rate.
This way, a green tea diet does not cause adverse cardiac effects and burn fats without increasing the heart rate by exercising or decreasing your food intake. Some people may tell you that green tea is not exactly a tasty infusion and they are correct. However, you can always find green tea products that come with natural flavors and different preparations, including diet green tea pills.
Enjoy many other health benefits of a green tea diet, including the reduction of high cholesterol levels because green tea acts directly over bad (LDL) cholesterol, increasing the ration of good (HDL) cholesterol that is transformed into energy.
Many of us learned about the benefits of green tea via The Oprah Winfrey Show, listening to Dr Perricone saying that “Coffee has organic acids that raise your blood sugar, raise insulin. Insulin puts a lock on body fat. When you switch over to green tea, you get your caffeine, you’re all set, but you will drop your insulin levels and body fat will fall very rapidly. So 10 pounds in six weeks, I will guarantee it.”
So, if you are not convinced about a green tea diet, simply reduce you caffeine intake substituting coffee for green tea and you will experience great beneficial changes towards a healthier life.
